Retail Consultants

Background

Fujitsu Services operate within the IT infrastructure and applications arena and outsource these services on behalf of their clients. They have operations within both the private and public sectors in the UK. One of their vertical markets is within the retail sector that they are growing and developing at the current time.

The Contract

Richard Clarke awarded a research contract to explore specific retail consultancies within which these individuals would be present. A copy of the Assignment Specification and research target listing is available on request. The contract was commissioned on 7th September 2007.

Duration of Contract

The timescale of the process is outlined within the contract. The retained search and selection process and timing of events is put together specifically for each client, depending upon client and candidate availability, and any other commitments. In general, the process will take eight weeks on average to complete.

The Services

Axiom developed a targeted listing of potential companies to search within in conjunction with the research team. In this instance external advice was sought as to the specialist retail consultancies within which to look. In addition, Axiom conducted a questionnaire and interview schedule of the clients existing employees in the retail sector to ascertain which companies they felt would be worth targeting. One full time consultant and two researchers were appointed to deliver the assignment.

The Requirement

Fujitsu were looking to penetrate the retail space within their business consulting division. As a business they are known for infrastructure outsourcing but wished to move into the consulting and applications arena. It was decided that the target clients should be the boutique specialist retail consultancies and the mainstream competitors who had a retail consulting practice. What was needed was an individual who had detailed knowledge of specifically store operations and potentially point of sale (POS) systems. The person had to be a ‘name’ within the industry and be capable of bringing some intellectual capital to the organisation. The target list was very specific and as such the shortlist was composed of extremely high calibre individuals.

The Solution

The research work generated a targeted number of suitable candidates from across the United Kingdom.. Interviews were conducted with Axiom, as is usual practice, in the first instance with two follow up meetings with Fujitsu

The Outcome

Appointment was made from a major competitor to Fujitsu within the retail consulting space. The individual was extremely well known in the marketplace and in addition had a track record of working in a major retailer at a senior level.
