Fujitsu

IT Technology Organisation

Non Executive Board Appointment

Background

Fujitsu Services operate within the IT infrastructure and applications arena and outsource these services on behalf of their clients. They have operations within both the private and public sectors in the UK. Their applications services division is growing and needed senior executive support.

The Contract

The head of the shared services within Fujitsu awarded the contract. A copy of the Assignment Specification and research target listing is available on request. The contract was commissioned on 3rd September 2006.

Duration of Contract

The timescale of the process is outlined within the contract. The retained search and selection process and timing of events is put together specifically for each client, depending upon client and candidate availability, and any other commitments. In general, the process will take eight weeks on average to complete.

The Services

Axiom developed a targeted listing of potential companies to search within in conjunction with the research team. Due to the nature of the role Axiom had to build very strong relationships with the senior individuals targeted. The work focused on several senior partners who were based in the UK and France. The relationship developed over 6 months courting and discussion and the role was modified as talks continued. One consultant was leading the activity.

The Requirement

The brief was to find a board level individual who could advise, as a consultant and non-executive, on the best way to develop the applications business throughout Europe. This person had to be very experience and connected in the relevant arena. It was imperative tat this person had the team behind them and was capable of operating at Chief Executive level and leading the discussions on behalf of Fujitsu with potential clients. In addition, this individual has to be able to be an ambassador for the Company.

The Solution

The scope of the work resulted in an extensive courting process that spanned 9 months and resulted in a meeting of minds and conclusion on how the role would be undertaken by this individual. Axiom then became very much involved in the operational process as to how the role could work. One limiting factor was an anti-competition clause that restricted the individual from working for a competitor for a period of time.

The Outcome

Contact was maintained by Axiom on a regular basis throughout this period of notice and ‘off-limits’ and Axiom helped resolve the situation at the appropriate time after the restrictions ceased to apply. The individual commenced employment in July 2008.
