O2

Global Telecoms Provider

Oracle Consultant/Project Manager

Background

O2 is a leading provider of mobile and broadband services to consumers and businesses in the UK. It was formed in 2001, following the demerger from British Telecom of its former mobile business, BT Wireless. O2 is now part of the Telefónica O2 Europe group which comprises integrated fixed/mobile businesses in the UK, Ireland, Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia - all of which use 'O2' as their consumer brand.

The Contract

The contract was awarded to Axiom on a contingency basis by the Head of Reporting and Capability.

The Services

Axiom deployed its research facility and capability and one full time consultant to deliver the search.

The Requirement

Our client was looking to secure an experienced, hybrid, contractor with both a Finance and IT background. Understanding how finance systems operated as well as having the IT knowledge to implement a new Oracle operating system was of paramount importance as the two areas were intrinsically linked in this project.

The ideal candidate, in addition to the above duties, was also expected to be able to train the permanent members of staff on the new system, from basic users to those who had never used Oracle before. In addition to the above, the candidate had to be able to start immediately.

The Solution

Identifying candidates with strong oracle skills and a finance background was essential. Our unique operating system allowed us to specifically target the candidates by searching on skill sets. A short-list of candidates was then created and telephone interviews carried out, identifying those who had also written procedural manuals or trained small groups on Oracle. The final short-list was presented to the client.

The Outcome

Of the final four candidates short-listed, all four were requested to interview by the client. The role was released on the Monday, the client was met on the Tuesday, interviews took place on the Wednesday morning and a candidate was appointed on the Wednesday afternoon to start work on the following Monday.
